EAST LONDON DRUM TUTOR
Originally from North London but moving down to the Isle of Wight I grew up on a varied but healthy diet of Jazz Record Requests, Ian Carrs Nucleus, Stevie Wonder and other choice records from my Dads collection. At the time I was also getting into bands like The Descendents, The Vandals and Rancid and playing in the back rooms of pubs on the Isle of Wight. Good times!
From there I moved back to London to study and play, which I have been doing for the last twelve or so years. I just finished up a Masters in Jazz Performance at Trinity College of Music where I studied with Liam Noble, Dave Wickins and Simon Purcel amongst others.
I’m a member of a few regular bands, with Lucky Elephant whose first album ‘Starsign Trampoline’ came out in 2009 on Rob Da Banks Sunday Best Records, and our second is due to be released next year with production and mixing duties from Mr Paul Butler. Between those we’ve been lucky enough and had a great time playing all around the Uk at festivals such as Bestival and Glastonbury and as far afield as Istanbul.
I also play with The Root Source, we have released a couple of albums on Freestyle Records the most recent ‘Firewalker’ being full of jazz samba originals bar a cover of the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory theme. We’ve gigged a lot in England and Italy including support slots with Lou Donaldon and Dr Lonnie Smith at the Jazz Cafe and the Micca club in Rome.
I recorded the majority of tracks on the latest Sophie Barker (Zero 7) album (sharing the drum duties with Ian Thomas) as well as The Forest ep. We’ve also done some great gigs including a fantastic trip to New York with a gig at Webster Hall.
