Win relocated to London from NZ in May 2008 and have been teaching students of all ages for local authorities and privately for many years (both in London and NZ).
Guitar is my main instrument, although I also teach Bass, Piano, Blues Harmonica, Voice, Drums and Songwriting/composition (more details on attached CV). I have recently graduated with a First in Music Composition (BA Hons) from Middlesex University. This has given me a much deeper understanding of the evolution, function and composition (including recent innovations in technology) of music that I am now able to draw upon as a teacher. Since 1978, I’ve played in various bands, including; Marc Almond, The Cleaners from Venus, Seventh Séance and Voice of America touring UK and Europe, managed multimedia productions, a pub theatre, an independent record label and publishing company and various festivals/benefit concerts. Throughout this time I have taught Guitar, Bass, Drums, Harmonica, Piano and Vocals (to private students and larger groups/classes as a local authority tutor) as well as producing and recording many projects on studio and more recently, digital, home recording equipment.
Philosophy, Style and Expertise
Classically trained on the violin up to Grade 7 and Music theory Grade 6, in 1978 I began playing Bass and guitar in local bands, writing and composing original songs. My approach to tuition has largely been based around Blues/Rock improvisation with a solid theory foundation, although my piano teaching is more closely allied to the Classical Suzuki method. Recently graduated with a First Class degree in Music Composition (BA Hons), at Middlesex University, I now have a much greater depth of understanding of the history of music and recent recording and notation software innovations.
