Workshops

Lessons with KTM are so much more than one-on-one tuition. Group workshops are core to our teaching philosophy. No matter how enjoyable and satisfying the experience of being able to play an instrument alone, nothing quite compares to the feeling of plugging in and rocking out with other musicians.

To this end, we have designed rock workshops that are open to KTM students of all instruments. These take place on a regular basis in different premises around London. What's more, KTM tutors will be present to give invaluable advice on the art of playing as a full band.

The workshops work in conjunction with the KTM syllabus so that once the student has learnt a certain track to a sufficient standard, he can join the workshop alongside students of the other instruments who have learnt the same track. Lesson reports and consulting with a student's teacher enable us to keep track of individual progress. We can then organise workshops according to ability, location and convenience.

There are various different types of workshop. These include:
SONGWRITING WORKSHOP

Songwriting Workshops Students write and record their own songs in two-day crash course or alternatively in a 12 week after-school course. The course caters for those with and without prior knowledge of an instrument.

ACOUSTIC WORKSHOP

Acoustic Guitar Workshops Students get an introduction to the art of playing ensemble music- 'jamming' if you like- in an unplugged scenario.

ROCK WORKSHOP

Rock Workshops Students get to play through their syllabus songs with a full band as well as getting a morning masterclass in one aspect of rock music from an expert. In the past these have included Justin Sandercoe, Katie Melua's guitarist, and Lee Hodgson, Total Guitar magazine's long-standing fingerstyle specialist.

DRUM WORKSHOP

Drum Workshops Drummers or wannabe drummers get together to create a host of group rhythms from around the globe using simple percussive instruments such as the djembe, maracas, clave, bongos etc.

SINGING WORKSHOP

Singing Workshops Students get an introduction to the techniques of singing. Or alternatively, more experienced singers get to learn about more advanced techniques like harmonisation, breathing control and performance.

Prices for workshops vary - so if you are interested in any particular one, do Contact Us.

NB. Workshops are only available to Key To Music students.

However, if you are a music teacher, and are interested in bringing KTM workshops into your school then do Contact Us, and we can tailor a workshop to suit your needs.
